A)4 strokes (42 votes)
B)5 strokes (47 votes)
C)6 strokes (29 votes)
D)7 strokes (o votes)

Answer:Hitting leaves off a tree in your practice swing is considered improving your line of play. By doing so Sean incurs a two troke penalty, the correct answer is 6 strokes.

———————————

Zak’s 2nd shot finds the green, it starts to rain on his walk up. He asks his caddie to hold his umbrella over him while he putts. He makes the putt. What’s his score?

A)3 strokes – 32 votes
B)4 strokes - 38 votes
C)5 strokes– 74 votes
D)6 strokes - 5 votes

Answer: Having your caddie shield you from the elements while hitting a shot is a two-stroke penalty. It is legal however for a player himself to hold the umbrella while shooting. The correct answer is C, 5 stokes.

———————————

John’s tee shot finds the green. After marking and replacing his ball, it starts to roll down a slight hill. John replaces the ball and 2 putts. What’s his score?

A) 3 (53 votes)
B) 4 (23 votes)
C) 5 (21 votes)
D) 6 (2 votes)

Answer: The wording on this questions isn’t the greatest and as such, it can be taken in two different ways. If the ball begins to roll in John’s process of marking and removing his ball marker, there is no penalty and the answer is A. However, if John replaces his ball and the ball starts to roll it’s another story. The ball rolling down the hill is irrelevant the ball must be played as it lies, it is deemed that after replacing the ball, the ball is in play. When it starts to roll again, it is considered to be apart of the original shot that got the ball there in the first place. By replacing the ball and holing out, John would be penalized two shots, and the answer would be C, 5 strokes.

———————————

Kim’s 2nd shot gets stuck up in a tree. During a practice swing, she hits a branch and her ball falls to the ground. Her next shot finds the green and she two putts. What’s her score?

A)5 (16 votes)
B)6 (36 votes)
C)7 (25 votes)
D)8 (5 votes)
E)9 (0 votes)

Answer: Kim caused her ball to move by accidentally hitting a branch in her practice swing, so she incurs a penalty of one stroke and she must replace the ball in the tree. As she proceeded to play the ball, she incurs another penalty stroke. The correct answer is C, 7 strokes.

———————————

Kim’s 2nd shot buries in a greenside bunker. She hits her next shot onto the green, but then notices that it wasen’t her ball. She then finds her ball and holes the sand shot. What’s her score?

A) 3 (25 votes)
B) 4 (7 votes)
C) 5 (31 votes)
D) 6 (14 votes)

Answer:A bunker is considered a hazard. Hitting the wrong ball out of a hazard is not a penalty, it can be a bunker or in a water hazard, but regardless the rule stands. There is no penalty, the correct answer is A, 3 strokes.

———————————

Karen hits her tee-shot into a water hazard, the ball is playable, however there is a dead frog lying behind her ball. She removes the frog, and hits onto the green. She two putts. Her score?

A)4 (47 votes)
B)5 (21 votes)
C)6 (28 votes)
D)7 (1 vote)

A live frog is considered an outside agency, but a dead frog is a loose impediment. Removing a loose impediment from a hazard is a two stroke penalty. Karen would take a 6 on the hole, C is the correct answer.

———————————

Sam hits the green with his 1st shot on a par 3. Embedded in the green, on his line of putt is a rock. He proceeds to dig the rock out before making his putt. What’s his score?

A)2 (35 votes)
B)3 (17 votes)
C)4 (21 votes)
D)5 (8 votes)

Answer: Sam is unfortunately unable to remove the rock without pentalty. Touching your line of putt, by pressing down on it or digging something out of the green is against the rules. Sam gets two penalty strokes, and the correct answer is C, 4 strokes.

———————————

John hits his tee shot onto another tee-box, he then steps on the grass behind his ball to make it easier to hit. He hits his next shot on the green, and two putts. What’s his score?

A)4 (16 votes)
B)5 (12 votes)
C)6 (31 votes)

Answer:Although John is allowed to press down the grass on his tee-box at anytime playing a shot, he is not allowed to do so on another tee-box. As that is not consider the tee-box in play at the time. Therefore John has improved his lie, and incurs a penalty of two strokes. The correct answer is C, 6 strokes.

———————————

Bob’s second shot lands on the green. A crow flies down, picks his ball up and drops it in a lake. Bob replaces his ball on the green and makes the putt. What’s his score?

A)3 (43 votes)
B)4 (5 votes)
C)5 (3 votes)
D)6 (1 vote)
E)7 (3 votes)

Answer: The crow picking up Bob’s ball is considered an outside influence, and Bob is entitled to replace his ball closest to the spot on the green as possible from where it last stopped. There is no penalty for a ball being moved by an outside influence. The answer is A, 3 strokes.

———————————

A) 4 (5 votes)
B) 5 (11 votes)
C) 6 (22 votes)
D) 7 (2 votes)

Answer:Despite the fact that Jane would get free relief from the leaves piled for removal if she found her ball, she incurs a one stroke penalty for losing her ball and must go back to the spot where she hit her shot to replay it. The correct answer is C, 6 strokes.

———————————

Kris hits his 2nd shot from the sand, it rebounds off his bag and hits him in the chest. He hits his next shot on the green and two putts. What’s his score?

A) 4 ( 3 votes)
B) 5 (8 votes)
C) 6 (12 votes)
D) 7 (19 votes)
E) 8 (4 votes)
F) 9 (8 votes)
G) 10 (0 votes)

Answer: This question was extremely tough, however when you think it through it makes sense. Kris hits the ball five times (excluding the time it hits him). He incures a two stroke penalty for hitting his own golf bag, and two strokes from hitting himself with the ball. The correct answer is F, 9 strokes.

———————————

John’s 2nd shot lies under a tree. He puts a towel down on the ground to keep his pants dry while taking his shot, he gets out of the trees, and finishes the hole in 2 more strokes. His score?

A) 5 (12 votes)

B)6 (18 votes)

C)7 (16 votes)

Answer: By placing the towel on the ground to take his shot, John is in breach of Rule 13. Technically John is building a stance, and therefore must be penalized two strokes. The correct answer is C.

———————————

Sam is new to the game. He hits his 3rd shot into a greenside bunker. He then takes several practice swings hitting the sand before playing his shot. He gets up and down. What’s his score?

A)5 (1 vote)

B)6 (6 votes)

C)7 (19 votes)

D)8 (10 votes)

Answer: The max penalty for taking practice swings and hitting the sand is two strokes. After the player has taken two strokes, the penalty does not apply anymore, therefore the correct answer is 7 strokes. C is the correct answer.

———————————

A)4 (24 votes)

B)5 (6 votes)

C)6 (2 votes)

D)7 (2 votes)

Answer: John’s ball is in play, but behind a immovable obstruction, however the barn doors are movable obstructions. Because of this John is entitled to relief without penalty. John elected to open the doors of the barn to play his shot, this is perfectly legal. John takes 4 strokes on this hole. The correct answer is A.

———————————

Jill hits her second shot into a hazard, when she finds her ball, it is outside the hazard but still in water. She removes the ball and gets up and down. What’s her score?

A)4 (9 votes)

B)5 (6 votes)

C)6 (6 votes)

Answer: If a ball is found in the overflow of a hazard (casual water), the player gets a free drop from the water. However, if the ball is lost in either the casual water or in the hazard but the player doesn’t know, by equity the ball must be assumed to have been lost in the water hazard. In this situation, Jill’s score is a 4. The correct answer is A.

———————————

Susan’s 2nd shot lies up in a tree that roots in ground under repair; however her ball hangs in play. She gets her ball down, and takes 3 shots to finish the hole. What’s her score?

A)5 (14 votes)

B)6 (10 votes)

C)7 (2 votes)

D)8 (o votes)

Answer: Any thing that grounds or is rooted in ground under repair, is considered to be apart of it. Therefore, Susan’s ball was in ground under repair and she would get a free drop. The correct answer is A, 5 strokes.

———————————

John tries to hit his tee shot and whiffs, complaining of the height of the tee, he adjusts it and hits his drive. He takes 3 more shots to finish the hole. What did he score?

A) 4 (14 votes)

B) 5 (29 votes)

C) 6 (4 votes)

D) 7 (12 votes)

Answer:Making a swing with intent to hit the ball counts as a stroke, furthermore once this stroke is taken the ball is in play. Since the ball was in play when John decided to move it, he incurs a one-stroke penalty. Since he didn’t replace the ball before playing his next shot John is considered to be playing under penalty of stroke and distance but still is only penalized one stroke. The correct answer is c, 6 strokes.

———————————

Joe’s 2nd shot lies on the green, he proceeds to repair a ball mark, and in so doing he steps and flattens spike marks on his line of play. He two putts. What’s his score?

A) 4 (36 votes)

B) 5 (22 votes)

C) 6 (19 votes)

D) 7 (0 votes)

Answer:By touching his line of play on the putting green, Joe incurs one additional stroke. However if Joe was to repair a ball mark on his line of play, and flatten spike marks in so doing, not on his line of play, he would incur no additional strokes. The correct answer is B, 5 strokes.

———————————

Jill’s second shot finds the green, as she approaches the green, a gust of wind moves her ball, she replaces the ball and proceeds to three putt. What is her score?

A) 5 (8 votes)

B) 6 (16 votes)

C) 7 (15 votes)

D) 8 ( o votes)

Answer:Since wind is not an outside agency which is defined as: is any agency not part of the match or, in stroke play, not part of the competitor’s side, and includes a referee, a marker, an observer and a forecaddie, Jill should have played the ball from it’s new position. Since she did not she incurs a two stroke penalty (Rule 18). The correct answer was C.

———————————

Jim’s 2nd shot lands in a bunker completely full of casual water. Since he cannot drop inside the bunker, he does so outside and takes 3 more shots to finish the hole. What’s his score?

A)5 (16 votes)

B) 6 (5 votes)

C)7 (5 votes)

D)8 (2 votes)

Answer: Jim’s been a victim of the rub of the green, just simply bad luck. He can proceed in either three ways, one being he can play the ball from the bunker and the casual water ( we already established he didn’t do this). Second, he can play the ball outside of the bunker no closer to the hole under penalty of one stroke according to Rule 25-1b(ii)(b). Thirdly, he can declare the ball unplayable and proceed in accordance to Rule 28. Either way, the correct answer is B. Congrats to the few who got this question correct.

———————————

Sue’s 2nd shot lies in a greenside water hazard. She attempts to play the ball, however when removing a loose impediment, her ball moves. She replaces the ball and gets up and down. Her score?

A)4 (0 votes)

B)5 (5 votes)

C)6 (10 votes)

D)7 (4 votes)

E)8 (0 votes)

Answer: For removing a loose impediment in a hazard Sue incurs two additional strokes (Rule 13-4c), and another stroke because the ball moved (Rule 18-2a). The ball must be replaced, and played. Sue incurs a total of three penalty strokes, making her total score 7 on the hole. The correct answer is D.

———————————

Player A is putting for birdie on a par 3. Player B hits his 2nd shot onto the green, his divot lands directly in line with A’s line of play. B fixes the divot; they both two putt. Their scores?

A) A, 4 - B, 5 (1 vote)

B)A, 3 - B, 5 (2 votes)

C)A, 3 - B, 4 (15 votes)

D)A, 5 - B, 4 (0 votes)

Answer: Fixing a divot anywhere on the green is permissible, even if it falls within your line of play. Also, in accordance to Equity (Rule 1-4), Players B’s shot, changed the conditions of Players A’s next shot. Player A is entitled to his original line of play. Fixing the divot, by either player is no problem. Player’s A score is 3, Player B’s score is 4. The correct answer is C.

———————————

James hits his second shot into a greenside bunker on a par 4. When he reaches his ball, he notices a pine cone behind his ball, he removes it and plays his shot. He gets up and down. What is his score on the hole?

A)4

B)5

C)6

D)7

Answer: A bunker is considered a hazard. So, by removing a loose impediment in a hazard, James is penalized two additional strokes, or a loss of the hole in match play. His score on the hole is a 6. C is the correct answer.
